Dear partners,

We’re pleased to launch the first issue of Making Waves, our new online magazine. Making Waves will focus on stories about the people who are working to protect and recover Puget Sound. The magazine is our way of celebrating the great work that’s happening within the recovery community here. Fittingly, our first issue of Making Waves features stories that show the impact of partnership and collective action.

Partnership and collective action help us accomplish big goals. When federal, tribal, state, local, nonprofit, and private partners work together, we can restore shorelines to a more natural state and help forage fish thrive; we can improve conditions for the Southern Resident orcas; we can design and execute key habitat projects that benefit people, salmon, and the economy; we can create roadmaps for preserving important species; and we can honor our affection for this place by dedicating ourselves to making it healthy and resilient.

The Puget Sound Partnership is committed to collaboration and collective action. We want Making Waves to build community and reach diverse audiences. We want the stories in Making Waves to inspire and challenge readers (hence the name of the magazine). These stories are intended to recognize success and serve as a reminder that we must do more to accelerate recovery. In the 2019 State of the Sound, we issued a Call to Action: each of us has a role to play in achieving Puget Sound recovery. The stories in Making Waves demonstrate what’s possible when we take action and work together. We don’t have time to wait. Join us.

Sincerely,

Laura Blackmore
